Summary

The Knives centers on David Blaylock, a working-class ex-soldier turned Home Secretary in a Conservative government. Over a treacherous autumn, Blaylock must manage high-stakes issues—border control, terrorism, immigration—while confronting a personal reckoning. As he navigates crises both public and private, his moral certainties unravel, and his rage and ambition begin to consume him. With pressure mounting at the Cabinet table and threats drawing ominously close, the novel delivers a taut character study of a complex man facing his own values and vulnerabilities.

“A pacy, prescient political thriller … captures the fast-moving pressures of government.” — Metro
“A gripping read from start to finish. A rich, multi-layered account of the complexities of modern government…” — Faber & Faber / Alastair Campbell
“The best political novel since The Line of Beauty … dramatic yet faithful to the facts about British politics.” — The Times
