Summary

Dennie Keeling, a retired woman living with early-onset dementia, wants nothing more than to live out her remaining years in peace. But when a secretive religious cult moves into her small English village, bringing whispers of ancient rituals and strange symbols, she finds herself drawn into a terrifying mystery. As her grip on reality falters, Dennie must determine whether her mind is playing tricks on her or if something truly sinister is taking root in her home. With time running out and the villagers seemingly complicit, she becomes the only one who can stand against the horror—before it’s too late.

Reviews

"Eerie, erotic, and utterly engrossing, Withered Hill is a masterpiece of folkloric horror. The village feels so real that you’ll glance over your shoulder as you turn the pages, expecting to find its shadow stretching toward you." — Kealan Patrick Burke, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of Sour Candy

"This is folk horror at its most insidious. David Barnett weaves an intoxicating mix of dread, tension, and mystery, building to an ending that will leave you breathless. It lingers in the mind long after the final page." — Mark Stay, author of The Witches of Woodville series

"Barnett’s masterful storytelling keeps the reader off-balance, much like the protagonist. What begins as a quiet psychological mystery soon unfurls into something far darker—whispered legends, ancient rituals, and a creeping sense that some places are better left undisturbed." — Goodreads Reviewer
